Elastomers

Some of the first applications of polyurethane chemistry were solid polyurethane elastomers. In 1937, Otto Bayer discovered an efficient method of making elastic polyurethane fbers by reacting dialcohols or diamines with diisocyanates. The properties of the elastomer can be varied bu the choice of the diisocyanate (Mondur®) or by the characteristics of the polyol. Development of elastomers has continued through the years and includes the introduction of highly reactive sprayable urethanes.
